CELINE was founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana, as a maker of children's shoes. In the 1950s they expanded their lines to include leather accessories. The 1960's saw the debut of Celine's fragrance line and prêt-à-porter collection, which Vipiana described as "couture sportswear". Ready-to-wear clothing was added in the early 1960s. The trademark horse and sulky date from 1967. Information c/o the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource.
