Red Velvet Skirt Suit and Jacket, Medium c.1950s

Outstanding vintage skirt suit made from scrumptious red silk-velvet dating c.1950s. Made in Mayfair, London by London Town. The cropped jacket has a peplum style hem and the original belt is included. Round neckline with cropped, raglan sleeves that end just below the elbow. Fastens with two large, flat, velvet covered buttons at the front and a small hook fastener at the waist.  Fully lined including sleeves.

The skirt has a narrow waistband. Enclosed side metal zip fastener with two hook fasteners at the waistband. Soft, pencil shape with a seven inch kick-pleat at the back. The top half of the back section of the skirt is lined.

Labelled: LONDON TOWN.  Made in Mayfair, London, England. The measurements provided are of the actual garment.  There is no stretch in the fabric.  If you measure smaller, this suit should fit you.  Always add a couple of inches to your own measurements for ease of movement. Approximate modern day size UK 12 (US 8) but please go by the measurements.

Condition:
Very good. The belt has a very thin, leather backing which has come away slightly at the end.  There's a few small marks on the velvet pile as shown in the last photographs. This could have occured if the suit was folded for a long period of time, rather than stored on a padded clothes hanger. Please 'click' on the images above for a closer view.
