Here we have four Apex Art discs which date c.1930s. They are very rare indeed and although not technically jewellery, can be used as eye-catching pendants as shown in the photographs below. Simply use a chord or thin necklace and thread through the metal hoops at the back. Alternatively, they can be sewn onto clothing, onto an existing belt or converted to brooches. These cast metal pieces are signed "APEX ART" and use a mix of ruby-red and clear paste rhinestones in a gorgeous, Victorian/bohemian revival design. Two buckles have metal hoops on the back and two have metal bars.
APEX ART company was renowned for manufacturing jewels for the Hollywood movie stars. One can only imagine the glamorous lady that owned these pieces originally.
Each buckle measures:Diameter 1 7/8" (just short of 5cm)
Condition:
Good. All the red stones are intact apart from a small red one. There are several missing clear rhinestones which are only noticeable on very close inspection. I have not attempted to replace the stones as the buckles look pretty amazing as they are. However, if you have a stash of vintage rhinestones and are experienced in replacing them, it might be a nice little project. As they are, these pieces are still incredibly beautiful but please note the following:
Buckle one - 1 missing clear rhinestone
Buckle two - 5 missing clear rhinestones
Buckle three - 3 missing clear rhinestones
Buckle four - 2 missing clear rhinestones
